An Analysis of Transphenomenal Reality in Quantum Mechanics from Modern Perspectives
This study explores the concept of transphenomenal reality by examining its treatment in the history of philosophy and its relevance to quantum mechanics. The question of its existence remains central in both modern and contemporary metaphysics. The study is divided into two sections: the first traces views from Aristotle, Descartes, Kant, and Locke, highlighting their distinct approaches to transphenomenal reality. The second section compares these classical perspectives with contemporary quantum theories. Aristotle’s rejection of radical indeterminacy aligns with the wavefunction collapse in the Ghirardi-Rimini-Weber theory, while Descartes’ mechanistic philosophy resonates with Bohmian determinism. Kant’s distinction between phenomena and noumena mirrors the measurement problem in quantum mechanics, and Locke’s unknown substratum reflects the concept of hidden variables. The study concludes that historical and contemporary views on transphenomenal reality are deeply interconnected.
