Abstract

The Zollikon Seminars (1959–1969) was a long-term program in which Heidegger conveyed to psychiatrists the phenomenological ontological approach of Being and Time, its basic concepts, and his evaluation of psychoanalysis. In addition to a phenomenological critique of the scientific nature of psychoanalysis, the theories of Ludwig Binswanger and Medard Boss, who functioned as a bridge between Heidegger's thought and psychoanalysis were also questioned as an alternative. This study aims to question why it is important to bring Heidegger's phenomenology and Freud's psychoanalysis into contact and the characteristics of the way Heidegger offers psychoanalysis. Therefore, Heidegger's criticisms of Freud's metapsychology and theory of the unconscious mind will first be evaluated. Heidegger's reckoning with Binswanger, who developed the psychotherapeutic form of dasein-analysis based on being and time, will be the second step of the study. Finally, the way out proposed by Heidegger's Dasein-analytical Theory, the result of his intellectual and practical partnership with Boss, will be presented. The questioning of the guidance that the notions of authentic existence and openness to being in his Dasein-analytic theory can provide in loosening the intellectual and existential constrictions in our daily lives will be the main trajectory of the study.
