A Forgotten Name in Turkish Philosophy: Bohor Israel and His Place in Turkish Philosophy
On the development of philosophy in Turkey, directly or indirectly, many people, institutions and organizations have been effective. However, some of them stand out with their personality, ideas, and influences, while others have been overshadowed, neglected, or forgotten over time. Bohor Israel, one of the philosophers of the Second Constitutional Era and one of these philosophical figures, is one of these names. He made works in the field of socialism, language issues, history of philosophy and especially the history of Islamic philosophy during the Ottoman period, and also published Ceride-i Felsefiyye, one of the first philosophy journals in our country. During the Second Constitutional Era, he criticized the Türk Yurdu magazine and the Turkism formed around the Türk Ocağı in various aspects and wrote articles defending the unity and integrity of the Ottoman society against this idea. In this study, the life, works and philosophical thoughts of Bohor Israel will be examined in its place in Turkish philosophy.
