Sartre on Creating the Body: The Magical World of Emotions

Abstract
Emotions are generally thought to be the automatic reactions of the individual to the external causes unconsciously. However, Sartre claims that emotions are conscious actions by establishing the body's relation to consciousness differently from traditional mind-body dualism. For Sartre, behaviors expressed by emotions are the deliberate attitudes towards a present situation and emotions are the form of existing the body. This study aims to reveal how consciousness exists the body under the form of emotions by approaching emotions through the phenomenon of incarnation and to draw attention to the place of the body in our perception of the world.
