Abstract

History of science, as a branch of knowledge, is a discipline with two faces. On the one hand, as a kind of history, it is one of the humanistic disciplines. As a discipline in this style, general history, historical methodology, philosophy (epistemology and philosophy of science), sociology (sociology of science and scientific knowledge), literary theory, cognition theory, anthropology, science policy, etc. It is in relationship with other humanistic disciplines such as. On the other hand, history of science, as a kind of reflection on science, interacts with science itself. Such a dual nature of the history of science lays the foundations for various approaches to this branch of knowledge, different methods of researching the history of science and writing about it. In this article, the transformations seen in the writing of the history of science, starting from the emergence of modern science, are discussed. While the dominant science history writing was based on the positivist view until the beginning of the 20th century, criticisms were brought to the positivist history of science writing as science entered into relations with other disciplines from the beginning of the 20th century. Our study is based on positivist science history writing and its criticisms.
