The Emergence of the Problem of Metaphysics in Kant
Kant’s criticisms of metaphysical research are not, of course, a pure criticism of metaphysics; they also show to what extent the theses of metaphysics can be verified by reason. In this sense, we believe that Kant’s aim was not to abolish metaphysics per se, even though the test of the fictional metaphysics that Kant calls transcendental dialectics with knowledge is shown to have failed by Kant. In fact, Kant’s analyses ultimately refer to different versions of classical philosophy, which Kant himself does not deny. This article aims to analyze Kant’s criticisms of metaphysics in a systematic way and to show why his views on metaphysics are the way they are. It will be the central hypothesis of this article that Kant's views on the impossibility of a science of metaphysics are to be found in the distinction between transcendental analytic and dialectic.
