Considerations on Contemporary Philosophy of Religion: A Critical and Hermeneutic Analysis
This study tries to contextualize the contemporary philosophy of religion through a metaphilosophical assessment of contemporary trends in philosophy. While doing this the following questions are basically taken into consideration. Should philosophy be appraised as just a rational attitude in terms of its essence? or is philosophy a way of perceiving presence, a way of giving meaning to it, having an existential aspect? Throughout this study while looking for answers to these questions, and determining our manner of philosophizing, we will start out from the similarities, differences originalities between the two great philosophical traditions of today’s philosophy, the continental european philosophy and the analytical philosophy. The similarities, differences and originalities between these two philosophical traditions will be attempted as manners of subjects, methods and approaches. While doing this various definitions of philosophizing and different meanings attributed to philosophy will be taken into consideration. The main features of philosophical effort will be determined by revealing the difference between these two great traditions. On the basis of acquired results contemporary styles of philosophy of religion will be evaluated in terms of these traditions. Eventually, based on deficiencies or inadequacies in the contemporary philosophy of religion, settings and recommendations will be arranged by considering the acquired results about how the contemporary philosophy should be.
