The Relationship of God and Psyche in the Theological Philosophy of Socrates
Socrates, who was the founder of the philosophy of soul (psyche) and ethics, opposed to the understanding of God of the traditional Greek religion both and pre-Socratic philosophers. The reasons for this are that he based on a theological system his philosophical thoughts and denied the idea of a god who has no wisdom and aim in the system. His radical thoughts against of the Greek religion aroused the community’s ire and in conclusion, Socrates was put to death because he denied this religion. In this study, the reasons why Socrates objected to the Greek religion and the natural philosophy will be presented, and the essential points of his new theological-philosophic system will be approached. In this context, Socrates’ thoughts about the relationship of between God and the human soul will be studied in terms of his concepts. Moreover, the ports of the human soul psyche and God's idea of Socratic philosophy will be discussed. In this way, the religious background of the ‘perfect your soul!’ principle will be examined. During the study, the issue will be approached from the perspective of the History of Religions. Besides the religious basis’ of Socratic philosophy will be tried to comprehend.
