Abstract
Aydınlanma Çağı düşünürü Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778) üzerine siyasetten ahlâka, bilimden sanata, eğitimden psikolojiye, tarihten uluslararası ilişkilere kadar pek çok alanı kapsayacak şekilde çalışmalar yapılmıştır. Yapılan bu çalışmaların bazılarında Rousseau’nun bilhassa eğitim ve siyaset üzerine yazdığı eserlerin Osmanlı münevverlerinin düşünce dünyasına etkisi tartışılmıştır. Bunların yanı sıra Rousseau’nun Cumhuriyet dönemi Türk mütefekkirleri üzerindeki tesirine dair çalışmalar da bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışmada ise diğer çalışmalardan farklı olarak Osmanlı kültür hayatının ve Türklerin, Rousseau üzerindeki etkisi tartışmaya açılacaktır. Zira Rousseau, eserlerinin pek çoğunda Türklerden olumlu anlamda bahsetmektedir. Bu bağlamda çalışmada Rousseau’nun hoşgörü ve çokkültürlüğe ilişkin düşünceleri üzerinde Osmanlı millet sisteminin ve Osmanlı yaşam kültürünün, dolayısıyla Türklerin yaşam pratiklerinin muhtemel tesirleri ele alınmıştır.

Abstract
There have been many studies that cover ethics, politics, science, art, education, psychology, history and international relations on the Enlightenment philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778). Some of these studies examine the effects of Jean-Jacques Rousseau's works on education and politics on the Ottoman intellectuals' world of thought. Moreover, some studies discuss Rousseau's effect on the Turkish thinkers of the Republic period. As distinct from such studies, this study examines the effects of Ottoman cultural life and the Turks' influence on Rousseau, as Rousseau mentions positively the Turks in many of his works. In this context, the present paper discusses the possible effects of the Ottoman nationality system, the Ottoman culture of life, and the life practices of Turks on Rousseau's thoughts on tolerance and multiculturalism.
