Abstract
Kadınların kendilerini erkekler olmadan düşünemediklerini ve düşünülmediklerini öne süren Beauvoir’a göre erkeğin özne ve mutlak olduğu yerde, kadın yalnızca erkeğin eksik öteki’sidir. Bu bağlamda Beauvoir, kadının kendi içinde bulunduğu bu konumdan sorumlu olduğunu düşünür; zira ataerkil kültür içinde yaşayan birçok kadın, sorumluluktan kaçmanın kendisine kazandıracağını sandığı kimi kazanımlar adına söz konusu eyleminden dolayı suçludur; bazı noktalarda içinde bulunduğu esaretinden sorumludur ve bu esaretinin suç ortağıdır; çünkü öteki olmaya “çoğu zaman” kendi razı olmuştur. Bu çalışmada da kadının erkeğin “ötekisi” olarak nasıl kurulduğu ve bu kurulum üzerinden hangi gerekçelerle eksik ve yetersiz bir biçimde temsil edildiği analiz edilmeye çalışılacaktır. Bu bağlamda Beauvoir’ın İkinci Cins’i temele alınarak kadının ötekiliği kabul etmesinin altında yatan nedenlerin neler olduğu üzerinde durulacaktır.

Abstract
Beauvoir believes that women cannot exist or be thought to exist without men. Woman is considered as the incomplete other on a situation where the man is the subject and the superior. Hence she is the incomplete other. For, in such a situation, she thinks that a woman herself is responsible for the position she is in. Many women, who live in patriarchal culture, become guilty of their own acts. Thus, in some respect, she’s responsible for being captive in this present condition. Since she herself prepares the ground for this captivity, she is to be blamed for that. Besides she often appears to concede to being other. In this study, we aim to analyze how a woman is constructed as the “other” of man and we shall discuss on the basis of Beauvoir’s The Second Sex, the reasons for woman’s acceptance of being other.
