Demolishing the Representation: An Introduction to Deleuze's Painting Ontology
Art takes an important place in the philosophical understanding of Gilles Deleuze. His reflections on literature, cinema, and painting in the course of transition from the logic of sense to the logic of sensation are still relevant today. Radical readings on the history of philosophy, centered on “representation”, “identity”, “transcendence” etcetera continue also on his painting evaluations. According to Deleuze art- painting in particular- has to eliminate representation rather than opposing sensation. Furthermore, the art of painting is not about representing or reproducing the visible but making the invisible forces visible in the visual material. This approach which forms the backbone of his painting ontology, being in the first place his Francis Bacon: The Logic of Sensation book is in a position the approach spreads to his numerous books.
In this context, the priority of our study will be to discover the powerful tools and language that Deleuze gave to produce ideas about modern art -especially painting- by revealing the possibilities of painting ontology.
