Abstract


Ideology as False Consciousness and Reproduction in Media
The ideology which has fairly rich literature as an interdisciplinary concept is based on the bourgeois values that prevent people from recognizing their social position is artificially defined as a “false consciousness” that produced by Marx and Engels. According to this approach, which implies the basis of critical theory, ideology hides the truth and reproduces the truth. Lukacs, Gramsci, and Althusser who held an important place in the tradition of Marxist criticism, also have tools of production in the field of domination on the ideology of the bourgeoisie reveals its effectiveness in the continuity. As an ideology, discourse penetrates society through various representations. The media, which is the most important discourse production center in modern societies, plays a functional role in the settlement of ideology in a social structure. The fundamental determination of media discourse is the economic policy of the media that is production conditions and ownership structure. Therefore, today the media defines the situation in favor of the dominant powers and contributes significantly to the regeneration of false consciousness.
