A Criticism of Mustafa Çevik's Thought on 'Muslim Democracy'
One of the main problems in history of political philosophy is the governing of society. Democracy is an important regime in terms of electoral determination of power, the possibility of people with different beliefs and understandings to live together, and the equal protection of their rights. Mustafa Çevik's concept of Muslim Democracy is a concept of Islamic understanding that centered on the understanding of humanity and justice of Islamic religion, advancing and praising the people against the state. Çevik's purpose is to show that the democratic system is not contrary to the basic principles and principles of Islamic religion. According to Çevik, human rights and democracy are the values that God teaches people, not a discovery of people. Hence, there can be no conflict between the basic principles of democracy and the basic principles of Islamic religion. In this study, it was aimed to examine Mustafa Çevik's Muslim Democracy concept, the compatibility of innovations with an open dynamic democratic system and the answers given in the search for solving the problem of community management. Çevik's Muslim Democracy concept was evaluated as being far from being an applicable system in a society composed of people with different beliefs and understandings.
